On January 23rd, Wasabi Wallet launched an educational Bitcoin competition, titled ‘Hunting Sats’, with the goal of teaching the public about blockchain security. The competition involves users attempting to ‘crack’ the seed phrase of a wallet loaded with over 4 million Sats. In order to showcase the security of private keys, Wasabi Wallet and a list of partners, including Swan Bitcoin, Trezor, and Blockstream, have split the 12-word seed phrase into individual words and are releasing a new word daily.
The goal of the competition is to demonstrate to the public the strength of cryptographic security. As more words from the seed phrase are revealed, the weaker the security becomes and it becomes easier for users to guess the wallet’s seed phrase. This demonstrates why it is important to store seed phrases securely and not reveal too many words at once.
As of press time, four words have been revealed: blast, hollow, state, and monkey. More words will be released to the public until the competition ends on January 30th. Wasabi Wallet is encouraging users and companies to spread the word about the competition in order to increase awareness about wallet security.
The competition is a great way to educate the public on the importance of private key security and to showcase the strength of cryptographic security. It also provides users with an opportunity to win a large sum of Bitcoin if they can guess the seed phrase correctly. For those interested in participating, more words will be revealed by the end of the competition.
